Free Art Friday II

I’ve been doing Free Art Friday for a little over a month now and it’s been great.  I’ve given out quite a few pieces so far, about 30 or more (I’ve taken the liberty to start free art Wednesdays and Thursdays).  The plethora of discarded student canvas panels I’ve collected at the end of the year give me the fodder to make and give out so many.  My students are aware and like the idea of what they thought was trash has become a collaboration of sorts.  I’ll be sure to continue until I run out of canvases, but I know I’ll just end up buy more canvases.

A few of the paintings I’ve bestowed on Philadelphia:

These last two were at Tattooed Mom’s Bar.  The owner had found one    of the pieces I left behind a couple days ago and hooked me up with free  tacos!  I was sure to tip the server well.

A lot of these are/will be available for sale through Esty (If you don’t find one on the streets).

Be sure to check out other Free Art Friday artists from around the world: freeartfriday.blogspot.com

Free Art Fridays

I made these for free art Fridays, which I find to be a great idea.  It’s been picking up momentum, and you can find sites that document the artists, as well as the people who find them.  These 5×5 canvas panels will be around Philly, and expect more all summer long!

Phish Phrenzy

It’s that time of year again!   With my schedule, it seems a toss up how many shows I’ll make it to.  I made these for the show I’ll be going to in Atlantic City (day one at Bader Field).  I figure if I’ll be tailgating, I might as well make sell some art.

I made these over the course of two days, on account of it being too hot outside over Memorial day weekend.  The antelope was a simple one layer stencil, but the traffic light was 4 layers, no registration.

I’ll have a couple up on etsy, the rest will be sold on the road.

X-Ray Vision

What started as a simple 1 layer stencil for a sticker (and possible wheat paste in the near future) turned into a 4 layer stencil I put on some canvas panels.  It’s been a while since I’ve worked with multi-layer stencils, which really makes me want to do some screen prints soon. It was a bit tough making sure the layers were lined up without any registration,  one of the reasons I’m selling these so cheap. Each one is unique and on an 8×10 canvas panel.  I’ll be making more variations, and custom color schemes are available upon request.

Heart Skulls

I made some new heart skulls on a bunch of 8×10 canvases I found in the trunk of my car.  I made the stencil on copy paper since I couldn’t find my transparency paper, and it has somehow held up.  We’ll see how many I can get down before the stencil calls it quits.

These and more skulls are available on Etsy.

The Prophet

Gouache and graphite on 9×12 watercolor paper. Available for sale, prints to be available soon.

Revisiting old themes with new ideas.  I’m really enjoying these and expect to do quite a few more.  I’m getting the hang of using gouache paint (and wishing I had started earlier!), and had been missing working in pencil.  Making this illustration made me wonder about what a dinosaur based theology would be like.  The idea of combining dinosaurs and religious symbolism seems like an interesting idea.   Don’t be surprised by some Byzantine/Orthodox style dinosaur saint illustrating this absurd idea appearing soon!

¡Lucha Libre!

Inspired by a painting I had done a couple years ago, I’ve revisited my lucha libre saint icons. It started out as some stickers, and once I acquired some gouache paints, I started doing them on some canvas panels.  They are are of various sized, although I’ll be doing more on 5×7 canvas panels (10-15 more in the near future).  They’ll be available for sale through Etsy at economy friendly prices.  If there’s a certain saint you want to get the lucha libre treatment, feel free to email me for custom icons.

Own a Dinosaur

Dilophosaurus (top), Erlikosaurus

I’m selling these plus more in my Etsy shop. I plan to do more, and redo a few from the postal label series (prints available!).  They are oil markers and spray paint on 8×10 canvas, a few on canvas panels.  I plan to do quite a few of these, and I’m willing to take requests.  They are going for $30-$40. Check out my Esty shop for new dinos, or email me if there’s a certain thunder lizard you’d like to grace your walls.
